Kim Jong Un Orders North Korea Mass Missile Production Ahead of US-South Korea Joint Military Drills

Kim Jong Un called for a "dramatic increase" in missile production during visits to critical weapons factories.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has issued a directive to accelerate the production of missiles and artillery shells, aiming to bolster the country's military capabilities and prepare for potential conflict, according to state media KCNA.

Kim's orders came during his recent visits to key munitions factories that manufacture tactical missiles, missile launch platforms, armored vehicles, and artillery shells, according to AOL.

Kim Jong Un Calls for Accelerated Missile Production

Kim emphasized the need to significantly enhance missile production capacity to meet the requirements of fortified frontline military units. He underscored the importance of the munitions industry's development in achieving qualitative advancements in war preparations.

The factories were described as having a vital role in accelerating North Korea's military readiness. During his visits, Kim inspected and test-drove a new utility combat armored vehicle, while also acknowledging advancements in the modernization of production lines for large-caliber multiple rocket launcher rounds.

He stressed the urgent necessity to exponentially increase the production of these rockets to strengthen frontline artillery units. Kim Jong Un's focus on building overwhelming military power and solid readiness reflects North Korea's ongoing efforts to deter potential adversaries from considering military action.

The dictator's comments highlighted a determination to prevent the use of force by adversaries and to ensure their swift defeat if they initiate conflict. The announcement coincides with the upcoming Ulchi Freedom Guardian summer exercises conducted by South Korea and the United States, which North Korea perceives as a rehearsal for nuclear warfare.

These annual drills often heighten tensions between North Korea and its neighbors. The international community has been concerned about North Korea's potential export of weapons, particularly given its recent involvement in global geopolitical dynamics.

The United States has accused North Korea of providing arms, including artillery shells, shoulder-fired rockets, and missiles, to Russia during its conflict in Ukraine. However, both North Korea and Russia have denied engaging in any arms transactions, As per The Star.

From Disaster Response to Military Buildup

In addition to addressing military matters, Kim Jong Un also visited regions affected by tropical storm Khanun, which swept over the Korean peninsula, causing flooding and damage to farmlands. Kim's push to bolster missile production reflects his commitment to strengthening North Korea's military capabilities and preparedness.

As the region navigates these developments, the international community remains watchful, and neighboring countries evaluate their security postures in response to North Korea's strategic moves. The US and South Korean militaries are expected to conduct the Ulchi Freedom Guardian summer exercises later this month.

However, North Korea has denounced them as a nuclear war rehearsal. The exercise has been conducted annually in August or September since 1976. According to reports, 'Ulchi' derives from the name of a famous Korean general named Eulji Mundeok, who was the Chief of Staff of the Goguryeo army.

The United States has accused North Korea of providing Russia with artillery projectiles, shoulder-fired rockets, and missiles for its war in Ukraine, WION via MSN reported.
