According to BBC News, the shooting incident in Virginia involving a 6-year-old boy and a teacher happened earlier this 2023.

The documents claim that the boy admitted that he was the one who shot Abigail Zwerner, an American teacher at Richneck Elementary School.

"I shot her dead," said the boy.

The kid said that he did it after getting his mom's gun the night before the incident. Court documents stated that the student said these statements while he was being restrained by authorities.

Despite the boy's crime, he wasn't charged. Instead, his mother, Deja Taylor, is the one facing felony child neglect and misdemeanor recklessly leaving a loaded gun that could endanger a child.

Before this, the woman was also charged with unlawfully using a controlled substance while owning a firearm, as well as making a false statement during her firearm purchase.

Because of all these charges, the boy's mother will be sentenced in October and could be imprisoned for up to 25 years.

CBS News reported that the 25-year-old teacher suffered gunshot wounds to her hand and chest. She needed multiple surgeries to recover.

Zwerner decided to file a $40 million lawsuit against the elementary school after the shooting incident.

She accused officials of gross negligence because they allegedly ignored multiple warnings that the student had a gun and violent mood before the incident.

Based on the police search warrant, many school staff members said that they heard two students talking about the 6-year-old boy carrying a gun in his book bag.

One of these staff members is Amy Kovac, a reading specialist in the elementary school. She is also one of the individuals who restrained the 6-year-old shooter.

"While I was holding him, he told me he had gotten his mom's gun the night before and put it in his backpack," said Kovac.

"He also told me he only had time to load one bullet," she added.

This is not the first time that the kid did something violent in school. Court documents revealed that when the boy was in kindergarten, he choked a teacher to the point she couldn't breathe.
