An "injured and exhausted" dog was successfully rescued from Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, by a dedicated team of 13 rescuers.

The Keswick Mountain Rescue team's 42nd mission of the year was the lengthy, four-hour animal rescue operation of an Akita dog, according to KESQ News.

On Saturday, Rocky and its owners successfully climbed to the top of Scafell Pike in the Lake District. But an unanticipated difficulty occurred as they started to descend into Langdale. The 33-kilogram (73-pound) dog declined to go farther, showing indications of weariness and having an injured paw.

At 6:25 p.m. local time, the terrified owners of the dog requested assistance, which sparked a quick reaction from the Keswick Mountain Rescue crew.

The rescuers gently brought the dog down the mountain using a stretcher and a bag, ensuring it was always comfortable and secure. The crew praised the dog, calling it a "relatively lightweight casualty" despite its size. Throughout the whole rescue effort, the dog maintained his composure.

Dog Rescue Draws Mixed Reactions

The Keswick Mountain Rescue team's Facebook page got varied comments on the rescue effort, as per The Guardian. While some users chastised the dog's owners for subjecting him to such strenuous hiking, others justified their decision, speculating that the dog may have been exhausted as a result of an underlying injury.

One user commented that Akita dogs are known for their high level of independence and stubbornness. He emphasized that when an Akita decides they have reached their limit, there is no changing their mind.

The Keswick Mountain Rescue team had run into a similar case on Scafell Pike in the past.
In July 2020, they successfully rescued Daisy, a 121-pound St. Bernard, who had passed out while descending the mountain with her owners, per Fox News.
