The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame event this year will see the induction of Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, and George Michael, among other music icons.

An artist or band must have released their first commercial recording 25 years prior to the year of nomination in order to be eligible for consideration. Despite receiving their first nominations, Crow and Nelson have been eligible since 2018 and the 1980s, respectively, for a number of years. The only artist to be admitted in her first year of eligibility was rapper Elliott.

Missy Elliott has continually received praise for bringing hip-hop new life with her music ("Work It") and music videos ("Get Ur Freak On," "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)"), USA Today reported. She has four Grammy wins and 22 nominations, making her the first female rapper to be elected into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

With the 1993 release of "Tuesday Night Music Club," Sheryl Crow began a career that would eventually lead to nine Grammy Awards and over 50 million records sold worldwide. Her successes include "All I Wanna Do," "Soak Up The Sun," and "The First Cut Is The Deepest."

Willie Nelson joins a hesitant Dolly Parton in the Rock Hall in 2022 as the second country music icon to enter in a row. With such successes as "Always On My Mind," "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain," and "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" with Waylon Jennings, the 12-time Grammy winner is a pioneer of Outlaw country.

Kate Bush Finally Makes it

Kate Bush has previously received three nominations: in 2018, 2021, and 2022. She hasn't put out any new music since 2011, but Running Up That Hill, which was used in the smash series Stranger Things, has helped her gain wide recognition again.

A fan vote, which George Michael won, was added to the official votes in determining this year's inductees. The former Wham! vocalist garnered 1.04 million votes, narrowly beating out Cyndi Lauper (928,000) and Warren Zevon (634,000).

The 40th anniversary of Wham's first album, Fantastic, coincides with Michael's induction. A Netflix documentary and a brand-new greatest hits compilation are also commemorating the milestone.

Most Diverse Lineup

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's upcoming induction ceremony is expected to be one of the most diverse in its history, with several women and people of color receiving honors, The LA Times reported.

On November 3, recipients from a variety of genres and styles-including country, hip-hop, rap-rock, R&B, art pop, folk-rock, dance music, and blue-eyed soul-will perform during the event at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Rock Hall chairman John Sykes believes the latest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees embody the varied essence of rock & roll and exhibit its various characteristics.
