Elon Musk's Ex, Grimes, is okay with AI-generated music. She invites artists to use her voice with the new technology without worrying about the penalties that usually come with it.

The latest remarks of the Canadian synth-pop artist come after the Universal Music Group or UMG raised copyright concerns over an AI-generation song, which cloned the voices of The Weeknd and Drake.

Grimes Invites AI Users to Create Music Using Her Voice 'Without Penalty'

Grimes is now the talk of the town after positively embracing AI-generated music that would use her voice. Some might know her as the ex-girlfriend of tech billionaire Musk, but before that, she was famous for her synth-pop tunes.

While some artists and music firms are blasting AI-generated music with legal penalties, the Canadian synth-pop artist goes against the tide.

In her recent Twitter post, Grimes shared a screenshot of a news story about the AI hit of the close Drake and The Weeknd, "Heart on My Sleeve." It went viral online on various social media services like Instagram and TikTok. However, streaming services have taken it down since then over legal copyright concerns, according to a report by NPR.

Grimes, in response to the AI-generated song fiasco, says, "I'll split 50% royalties on any successful AI-generated song that uses my voice." The female artist also revealed that "we're making a program that should simulate my voice well but we could also upload stems and samples for ppl to train their own."

The pop star further stated that the setup would be similar to how she collaborates with other artists. In her tweet, she explains, "Same deal as I would with any artist [I collaborate] with."

On top of that, Grimes assures that those who use her voice in AI music will not face any penalty. She adds, "I have no label and no legal bindings."

In other words, it looks like Grimes is embracing the new emerging technology of AI, encouraging artists to use her voice as if it was a traditional collaboration.

Grimes and AI

Forbes notes that Grimes has long been a supporter of AI long before ChatGPT and other viral tools have taken the world by storm. In fact, the popstar previously collaborated with a music startup known as Endel way back in 2020.

During that time, she was still in a relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Musk. The collaboration with Endel focuses on an AI lullaby app they created for her son, X Æ A-XII.

As per Engadget, she took inspiration in creating "a better baby sleeping situation" for her firstborn. Thus, she went on to create the AI-powered app with the startup.
