‘Saving Private Ryan’ Star Tom Sizemore Cause of Death, Revealed

The death of Tom Sizemore, who starred in the late-1990s military film 'Saving Private Ryan,' was confirmed by the actor's manager, Charles Lago.

After a brain aneurysm, Tom Sizemore, star of the late-1990s military epic "Saving Private Ryan," has passed away. He was 61.

The actor's manager, Charles Lago, revealed that Sizemore passed away quietly on Friday, with his brother and twin kids by his side.

Tom Sizemore's Death

"It is with great sadness and sorrow I have to announce that actor Thomas Edward Sizemore ('Tom Sizemore') aged 61, passed away," Lago stated.

Lago confirmed to USA TODAY that Tom Sizemore was admitted to the hospital after collapsing at his Los Angeles residence on February 19 due to a brain aneurysm caused by a stroke. In a February 27 update on the actor's condition, Lago said that Sizemore's health had not improved after the aneurysm, as he remained in a coma.

The actor is best remembered for his portrayal as Mike Horvath in the 1998 film 'Saving Private Ryan' directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks. He also starred in 'Black Hawk Down' and 'Pearl Harbor' in 2001 and the 2017 reboot of 'Twin Peaks.'

Tom Sizemore also has a history of drug abuse and run-ins with the police, including a civil action in 2020 by a woman claiming he grabbed her on a film set when she was 11 years old. The actor denied liability, and the lawsuit was subsequently dropped. Sizemore released a memoir titled 'By Some Miracle I Made It Out of There' on his experience of addiction in 2013.

Tom Sizemore Discovered Unconscious at Home

Thomas Edward Sizemore Jr. was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 29, 1961. In the 1980s, he rose to fame on 'China Beach.' In the 1990s, Sizemore had various tough-guy supporting parts in films including 'Strange Days' and 'Heat.' Sergeant Horvath in Steven Spielberg's 1998 World War II blockbuster 'Saving Private Ryan' is likely his best-known role.

In the early 2000s, Sizemore's legal issues dominated the news, as he struggled with drug dependence and even appeared on 'Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.' In 2017, the actor appeared in numerous new television series, as per NY Daily News. This year, he appeared on the Netflix original series 'Cobra Kai.' Jagger and Jayden Sizemore, his teenage children with his former partner Janelle McIntire, survive him.

Per The Sun, an unidentified individual discovered the actor unconscious in his home and phoned 911. Tom Sizemore was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital, where the Intensive Care Unit considered his condition severe.

In the 1998 classic film Saving Private Ryan, the gifted actor portrayed Sergeant Horvath in a key role. Inspired by the events of World War II, the film received five Academy Awards. After appearing with Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, Tom became well-known for the 2001 film 'Black Hawk Down.'

In addition to 'Born on the Fourth of July,' 'Natural Born Killers,' and 'Heat,' the actor participated in other significant films. On IMDb, Tom Sizemore will now appear posthumously in the first episode of the sixth season of 'Cobra Kai' as the character J.T. Taggart.
