Tom Brady, regarded as one of the greatest football athletes ever, announced his retirement via Instagram video on Wednesday, though it was reportedly filmed earlier.

Tom Brady waited a while before releasing his retirement video, NFL Network's Peter Schrager disclosed on Wednesday morning, hours after the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback announced his retirement in a self-shot beach clip.

According to Schrager's tweet, sources close to the football legend said the Tom Brady retirement announcement video on Wednesday was recorded for some time. "Kept this one awfully quiet."

He went into further detail on "Good Morning Football" about the breaking news on Tom Brady retirement, per New York Post.

As Schrager said on the show, "That was taped a while back," which was reported on by Mass Live, adding that Brady was at an LA premiere "last night, doing the movie premiere" for "80 for Brady."

He noted that it can also be seen in the video that the sun "is not yet risen" in Los Angeles. "So that is a taping, that means he has known this and has kept this quiet for at least 48 hours."

After 23 years in the NFL, Tom Brady retired "for good" after winning seven Super Bowls and setting countless records. He played for the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
