President Obama released his annual statement on Roe v. Wade, expressing his support for the Supreme Court ruling that eliminated anti-abortion laws 41 years ago this Wednesday, USA TODAY reported.

"Today, as we reflect on the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, we recommit ourselves to the decision's guiding principle: that every woman should be able to make her own choices about her body and her health," the statement read.

"We reaffirm our steadfast commitment to protecting a woman's access to safe, affordable health care and her constitutional right to privacy, including the right to reproductive freedom.

"And we resolve to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, support maternal and child health, and continue to build safe and healthy communities for all of our children. Because this is a country where everyone deserves the same freedom and opportunities to fulfill their dreams."

In addition to the president's remarks, anti-abortion advocates gathered in the nation's capital for their annual March for Life event. According to the organization's website, they are the largest anti-abortion group in the world and hold their annual protest on the National Mall.

The protesters were accompanied by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), who updated his Twitter account throughout the day.

"Thanks to everyone for coming up to #MarchForLife today in the freezing cold to give voice to all the innocent lives lost to abortion," Cantor tweeted.

The anti-abortion protestors also received support from Pope Francis, who just recently began discussing the church's abortion views and took to social media to express his solidarity.

"I join the March for Life in Washington with my prayers. May God help us respect all life, especially the most vulnerable," Francis tweeted.
