"Masters of the Universe," the much-awaited Sony movie would be debuting in Dec 2019. Sony has announced its release calendar and many of the release dates of its upcoming projects have been revised.

Fans would have to wait for two more years to watch "Masters of the Universe" as Sony has set the release date of the movie in Dec 2019. According to Coming Soon, Sony Pictures will release "Master of the Universe" on Dec. 18, 2019, while "Angry Birds 2" will be making it to the theaters on Sept. 20, 2019. Another much-awaited film, the yet-to-be-titled Spider-Man is scheduled for Dec. 14, 2018, release.

Sony released its calendar on Wednesday and now that it is clear that "Masters of the Universe" is coming on Dec. 18, 2019, one can see the film receiving some tough competition. This is because two days after, the untitled live-action fairy tale film of Disney and Broadway adaptation of "Wicked" from Universal Pictures would also be premiering. Also, the Spider-Man film will find a competitor in the form of "Mortal Engines," again a Universal's production.

Nevertheless, fans are curious for "Masters of the Universe," an adaptation of "He-Man," Dark Horizons has learned. The movie revolves around Prince Adam, who can transform into the warrior He-Man and as the superhero, he becomes the savior for Eternia, a magical land that has been destroyed by Skeletor and technology.

It is worth mentioning here that "Masters of the Universe" was launched as a toy line in 1982 and it led to some interesting animated series. A film by the same name was made in 1987 and though it did not taste success at the box office, it went on to acquire a cult status over the years. It was directed by Gary Roddard and had Dolph Lundgren, Courtney Cox and Frank Langella in the lead roles.
