Previously, there was nothing more detrimental to an iPhone than a cracked screen. It meant either purchasing an entirely new iPhone or trusting your device in the hands of an unofficial repair person. Now Apple seems to be toying with the idea of fixing broken or cracked screens in their retail store locations.

The company is rumored to have been offering an in-store service that allowed iPhone 5C owners with cracked screens to have them repaired right on sight. The service is thought to be rolling out to its stores around the world starting Monday.

According to the rumor, which was reported by 9To5Mac Apple will officially repair or replace any of its "budget" handsets, otherwise known as the iPhone 5C, with a cracked or broken screen for $149. That is only if the phone is not covered under warranty. Typically the repair only takes up a single hour according to the report but Apple does not guarantee anything more than "a matter of hours."

Apple has reportedly been working on this program for several months but the Jan. 20 rollout will represent a full-scale launch in all of Apple's retail regions with the exception of Hong Kong and Canada.

According to 9To5Mac, the iPhone 5S in-store screen repairs program is coming but it likely won't see a full-scale rollout Jan. 20 like the rest. 5S repairs are reportedly already in the small rollout stage. Apple has, however, been offering replacements of other parts for both devices for some time.

So far, Apple has not confirmed the rumors but it has been offering in-store iPhone 5C screen repairs in a number of U.S. shops, meaning that this program is in fact something that the company is hoping to rollout to the mainstream as soon as possible.
