George Michael was finally laid to rest in London. His funeral was held more than three months after his unexpected death on 25 December 2016.

According to Us Weekly, George Michael's funeral was held at the Highgate Cemetery in north London this Wednesday. It was a private ceremony. The singer's late mother, Lesley Angold Panayiotou, is also buried there.

According to Mirror, George Michael's family released an official statement that confirmed that the funeral indeed happened. It was also mentioned that the ceremony was small in size with family and close friends attending.

"We can confirm that the funeral of the singer George Michael took place today," Mirror quoted the statement. "Family and close friends gathered for the small, private ceremony to say goodbye to their beloved Son, Brother, and Friend."

The statement further stated that George Michael's family is grateful for all the fans sending their love and support when the tragedy took place. The family, however, wished that their privacy is respected so and requested media to not cause any intrusion. 

The funeral of George Michael was attended by Andrew Ridgeley, Pepsi DeMacque, and Martin Kemp among others. The popstar's boyfriend Fadi Fawaz also attended the service.

Following the funeral, George Michael's former partner Kenny Goss and the Kemp family gathered at the singer's house. Strict barriers were raised outside the house along with a doorman guarding in order to keep any paparazzi from entering.

There were rumors that model Kate Moss would also attend the funeral as she was spotted wearing black. however, it that did not happen.

George Michael was found dead last December but his funeral was on hold until the coroner gives the nod. The senior coroner for Oxfordshire, Darren Salter announced that the 53-year old was suffering from heart disease and a build-up of fat in his liver and he died of natural causes.
