The Vampire Diaries final season is currently on midseason hiatus. There are some burning questions including the fate of Salvatore brothers and Elena Gilbert's return that are still unanswered.

Latest episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 8  witnessed Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) turning off his humanity for a year. And when he opened Caroline's (Candice King) Christmas gift, which was Elena's necklace, he supposedly killed Sybil (Nathalie Kelly).

However, the teaser of episode 8, which will premiere on January 13, revealed that Sybil is still alive and definitely angry. Furthermore, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) is seen drugged and locked up by brother Stefan. Will Damon die?

As per INQUISITR, Digital Spy has recently stated that there are strong chances of fans not being able to see Damon-Elena reunion as Damon may die. Ian Somerhalder himself hinted at this fate.

The Vampire Diaries actor admitted that he is not able to see how his character will get a happy ending after every wrong deed he has done. Both Ian and Paul have constantly hinted at their characters dying in the season finale.

According to TV Guide, Paul Wesley has previously stated his idea of how the series should end. He thinks that Stefan should take off his daylight ring and die with Damon. Paul believes it to be the perfect ending.

Ian Somerhalder answered the same question of series finale. He said that the brothers should just go to the Caribbean and sit on a beach all night drinking Caribbean wine. And in the morning, they should give each other a hug, take off their rings and throw them in the ocean and that's how it should end.

It looks like the Salvatore brothers are preparing the viewers for a rather tragic end. Adding to the woes, Nina Dobrev's return during the final episodes of the series is still not confirmed. Fans of The Vampire Diaries have become agitated because of the delay in confirmation that Elena Gilbert will be back.

The official social media pages of the series is now being flooded with threats that viewers will boycott remainder of the final season of The Vampire Diaries and even actress Nina Dobrev until it's revealed Elena Gilbert is back.
