CyanogenMod 14.1 nightly builds, which is based on Android Nougat 7.1 was announced in the month of November and from then it has added a bunch of new phones to the list. List includes Galaxy S3 (i9300), Galaxy S3 VERIZON, Xiaomi Mi Max and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. Other smartphones like Nexus 6P; Nexus 5X, OnePlus 3 are already supported by this build.

According to the IndianExpress, Steve Kondik of CyanogenMod had said earlier that a few new features might be missing from the custom ROM CM14.1, like Themes, and the development is still in progress.

Kondik had also put out a list of devices that were ready for the update in the first phase, which includes Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Xiaomi Mi3/Mi4, LG G3, Moto G variants, LG G4, Samsung Galaxy S5 and OnePlus 3. The Custom ROMs are ready to download from the CyanogenMod official website.

Normally, you will get the features in the Nougat like, quick app switching, split screen mode, quick Reply and bundled notifications. DPI scaling for resized on-screen content and refreshed look on Settings menu.

In CyanogenMod 14.1, apart from the Trebuchet Launcher, the custom ROM also offers an adaptive screen mode that called Live Display in which the screen changes its colour and temperature depending on the time of the day and weather condition.

Furthermore, CyanogenMod 14.1 also gives expanded desktop in which the navigation and status bar are automatically hidden for better screen experience. At Last, the custom ROM also offers notifications for battery and LED controls, performance profiles for power-saving that automatically optimized, a pre-set audio setting i.e. AudioFX, some button shortcuts, different layouts and power-off menu subject for customization, system profiles and refreshed settings for privacy.

You should note that installing this ROM will remove the current OS on your phone, and replace it with CyanogenMod 14.1 running on Android Nougat 7.1 CM14.1.

CyanogenMod 14.1 will be available for devices that will receive the Android Nougat update very late or not at all. So if you have an old phone, where Nougat does not seem like a possibility then you can think of installing this build.

The ROM can be flashed on your device by simply unlocking bootloader. First go to Settings, then About phone and keep tapping Build number until you get the Developer options in settings. Next, switch on the OEM unlocking toggle. Also, enable the USB Debugging option in Developer options.

The list of smartphones that are supporting the CM 14.1 ROM is constantly growing and you can check on the official blog.

Kondik from CM team has also said that users should send bug reports so as to help in the development of the OS. Though themes are not yet available for the latest CyanogenMod, it's expected that in future the Mod will be rolled out for a larger batch of phones, along with new themes.
