If rumors are to be believed, OnePlus 4 that was expected to arrive in 2017 will be scrapped and the company will launch OnePlus 5 instead.

The company is reportedly skipping OnePlus 4 naming and will present its next phone in the lineup with better specs, newer design and another name.

As the reports about skipping fourth iteration of the phone started doing the rounds, tech enthusiasts wondered the logic behind the company's move. As it turns out, number 4 is considered unlucky in China which could be the reason why they decided to skip it altogether.

To add more credibility to the rumor, even Vivo decided to bypass Vivo V4 and launched Vivo 5, straight after Vivo V3. Both OnePlus and Vivo are owned by BBK electronics.

Hence, it is safe to assume that the company will skip OnePlus 4 naming and instead release the fifth one. Not only did BBK skip the number 4 iteration, even the smaller Chinese companies believe in the bad luck attached to it, known as "Tetraphobia," and often just pass it for a newer name or fifth version, according to recent reports.

Meanwhile, rumors are also rife that the along with other flagship phones such as Samsung Galaxy S8, Xiaomi Mi 6 and LG G6, OnePlus 5 will also be released at MWC 2017. As far as the specs are concerned, new OnePlus 5 will launch a ceramic variant of their flagship phone that will be powered by Android Nougat. Additionally, the users will also get OnePlus' own OxygenOS UI as well.

The new handset will come with a 5.5-inch screen, equipped with QHD AMOLED display. The phone will carry 6GB RAM under the hood and Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC.

Even though it makes for a very exciting news, the fans should take this update with a grain of salt, until confirmed by OnePlus.
