Dallas Mavericks point guard Deron Williams is hitting the latest trade rumors that swirling in the news today. He is said to be targeted by the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Cavs are willing to give up 3 players for him. Will the Mavericks consider the offer?

The Mavericks seem to be in disarray at the start of the regular season. Holding a 2-11 record, they are currently at the bottom of the Western Conference division. Many say that they will continue to struggle if they will not shake up their roster.

Reports are saying that the Cavs are still looking for a backup point guard who could support Kyrie Irving at the backcourt. They've traded away Matthew Dellavedova to the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason leaving the Cavs with only rookie Kay Felder as a substitute to Irving. But it looks like Felder is not ready to the big task and the Cavs is desperately looking for a veteran PG in the trade market.

According to Sportsrageous, it seems that Deron Williams is the veteran PG that the Cavs are looking for. And to make the trade deal happen, the Cleveland Cavaliers are offering a package of Mike Dunleavy, Jordan McRae plus Mo Williams' expiring contract to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Williams.

The 3-time NBA All-Star is a perfect complement and substitute for Irving. He has the ability to penetrate inside the paint and look for an open teammate in the perimeter that can help the Cavs spread the floor. And it seems that he is the experienced player that Cavs coach Tyronn Lue is looking who could easily adapt to his system.

On the separate report by The Inquisitr, if the Cavs are looking to defend their title they must move to acquire a backup point guard. However, two roadblocks are getting on their way if they want to trade for Williams. First, Williams just recently signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Mavericks which means that he can't be traded until December 15.

Second, reports are saying that the Cavs are already over the salary cap and can't absorb the salary that Williams will bring. For now, the Cavs might shuffle the ball handling to Irving, Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith and LeBron James until they've come up a feasible deal to acquire a dependable backup point guard.

Can the Cleveland Cavaliers pull off a trade to acquire Deron Williams from the Dallas Mavericks?
