Kickstarter has had a thriving and joyful 2013.

Kickstarter, the popular crowd-funding source for independent projects, has revealed interesting numbers for the year 2013. The organization has helped several projects to get ample support from people across different continents of the world. With some wins and some losses, Kickstarter helped more than 19,000 projects to reach their funding goals successfully. Annual stats released by Kickstarter show that 3 million people backed Kickstarter projects last year, up from 2.2 million in 2012.

The annual 2013 report from Kickstarter, which is in a slideshow format, shows a significant increase in the company's growth. That said, the crowd-funding website was able to generate $480 million to startup projects on the site, which by calculations is $1.3 million donations per day or $913 each minute. Kickstarter takes a walk-down-the-memory-lane, by showing some of the successful projects that it funded in 2013 and some projects that were funded in 2012 but debuted in 2013.

The crowd-funding site funded some of today's most popular projects, including Pebble smartwatch, which raised $10.3 million in 2012, gaming console Ouya, which reached $8.6 million and the Oculus Rift gaming device that got $2.4 million. Kickstarter also played a responsible role in the entertainment sector with award winning films like Blue Ruin and Inocente, which secured an Oscar for best documentary in 2012. It even funded U.S. rappers Pacman and Peso trip to North Korea to shoot a music video.

Kickstarter helped 19,911 projects reach their crowd-funding goal successfully, and the organization has thousands of other projects that are yet to reach their pledged goals. These numbers have increased from 18,109 successful projects funded by Kickstarter in 2012.

"2013 reminded us that people are amazing, that ideas are exhilarating, that we're all capable of creating incredible things," Kickstarter concluded in its annual report of "The Year In Kickstarter."
