Deadpool director Tim Miller has taken up the project of a CG-animated and live action family film based on an adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog for Sony Pictures. The move comes a week after Miller stepped away from the next Deadpool movie.

The Hollywood Reporter said that Miller and his longtime Blur studio collaborator Jeff Fowler have been hired to work on the project, and Fowler would make his debut in feature directing.

"Jeff is an incredible director with strong instincts. The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring a new dimension to this iconic character," said Miller, reported newseveryday.

They will join hands with the Fast and Furious franchise's Neal Moritz, who is producing the adaptation, the report added.

The scriptwriters for Sonic the Hedgehog reportedly are Patrick Casey and Golan the Insatiable fame Josh Miller.

Tim Miller and Jeff Fowler were reportedly in the race for the best animated short Oscar in 2005 for their farm life story "Gopher Broke." The report added that the duo are also developing an animated adaptation of the famous comic, "The Goon."

"Sonic the Hedgehog" was a video game popular among the 90's generation. The blue hedgehog with huge eyes and spikes on its back was a common feature in most 90's kid's game collections. News everyday reports that the game was developed by Sonic Team and published by Saga for the Sega Genesis console. The video game reportedly focused on Sonic the hedgehog's speed and agility to run really fast through levels with spring, slopes and high falls.

A deadline report confirmed that Tim Miller quit the Deadpool franchise after his reported creative differences with actor Ryan Reynolds. Although he did not formally sign a deal, he was reported to have been working on the script and was said to be eager to go behind the camera for Deadpool again.
