Warner Brothers and Village Roadshow Pictures set a release date for the spin-off of heist movie trilogy "Ocean's Eleven." The all-female cast movie is set to be released Summer 2018.

Hollywood Reporter quoted Warner Brothers disclosing that movie "Ocean's Eight" is scheduled to be released on June 8, 2018. The movie stars Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina.

The production will begin this October in New York with Gary Ross as director. Ross is a renowned writer and director known for his craft in the movies "Hunger Games", "Pleasantville" and the American Civil War movie "Free State of Jones."

Ross is also the executive producer of the movie along with the directors of the original "Ocean Eleven" trilogy, Steven Soderbergh and Susan Elkins, as reported by Variety.

Village Roadshow, the production company of the previous "Ocean's Eleven" trilogy, will co-produce the project. Julia Roberts, one of the original casts from "Ocean Eleven", is now the lead character of "Ocean Eight."

The original movie, "Ocean's Eleven" is the 2001 remake of the 1960s movie with the same title. The 2001 movie starred George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy García, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts.

It followed the story of ex-con Danny Ocean (Clooney) that formulated a plan with his long companions Rusty Ryan (Pitt) and Linus Caldwell (Damon), to rob a casino owned by Terry Benedict (Garcia). Danny's ex-wife Tess (Roberts) is now Terry's girlfriend.

"Ocean's Eight" follows the story of Tess and Danny's sister, played by Bullock - who is a charismatic and charming thief just like her brother. She plans a heist at the Met Gala and recruits a multi-talented team of thieves just like her brother did. Her long companion is played by Blanchett. According to Ross, the film follows the same tone as in the previous movie.

"I think it's a pretty similar tone. This is very much an extension and a continuation," he said in an interview with /FILM.

Meanwhile, Matt Damon is excited about the spinoff, as he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight below:
