Samsung has just unveiled the latest installment in its popular flagship lineup of mobile products in the Galaxy family. While the title is mostly for smartphones, the company has taken a small break from the norm with the addition of the Galaxy Camera 2, a digital camera device that runs on the Android operating system.

Powered by version 4.3, Jelly Bean, the new camera features a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS Sensor and 21x optical zoom, just like the original Galaxy Camera. IGN reports the device is a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of Ram and 8GB of internal storage as well as microSD card support.

In terms of the device's software, it boasts 28 different pre-set shooting modes as well as the ability to capture video in fast forward or slow motion. The 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCD is used for taking and viewing photos and video, or users can take advantage of remote Viewfinder for added control with their smartphones. The Galax Camera 2 also includes access to the Google Play Store for more apps that you can add to your device from Android's already vast library of photo sharing and editing apps. In other words, your Instagram account may never be the same in terms of picture quality and ease of use.

So far, Samsung ahs only said that the Galaxy Camera 2 will be enabled with WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity, while the previous Galaxy Camera had 4G and 3G capabilities.

Pricing and availability for the device have not yet been shared with the public, but Samsung will have the Galaxy Camera 2 on display at CES 2013, so the South Korean Tech giant will likely use the event as an opportunity to let people learn more about the device live in Las Vegas. It's worth noting that the original Galaxy Camera with 3G connectivity launched for $499. While that won't necessarily be the price of the Galaxy Camera 2, it's at least a starting point for people's expectations.
