On a Reddit AMA, OnePlus co-founder confirmed in a comment that the Android Marsmallow update will be hitting OnePlus X next week. On the other hand, OnePlus 3 will also be getting the Android Nougat update but no definite date was mentioned.

Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, confirmed that the Lollipop running OnePlus X will be upgraded to Android Marshmallow next week. It is said that this will be the last update for the phone as it is using a Snapdragon 801 processor, not compatible with Nougat, according to Trusted Reviews.

Meanwhile, the company revealed that their team is "actively working" on the updates for its Android 7.0 Nougat-based Oxygen for OnePlus 3. Earlier, the company's two OS teams, Oxygen and Hydrogen merged into a unified platform based on Android and created OxygenOS 3.5.2 community build.

The company stated that combining their team resources will help them speed up the software updates. However, they cannot share a timeline right now on when are they going to release the Nougat update.

"As for updates, if there's any company feeling the pressure of needing to update fast, its OnePlus. We have the most vocal and tech savvy user base, so this point is not lost on us. I believe that now, with our new software team structure, we'll be able to move a lot faster than before," said Pei, India Today reported.

The company also stated that the Nougat-based Oxygen will not be far from stock Android experience, but they will have more useful features than stock. Moreover, the company does have a name yet for the new Hydrogen/Oxygen merged OS.

On the other hand, while looking at building OnePlus ecosystem, Pei denied that the company is working on a smartwatch and we cannot expect any handset running an operating system other than Android.
