HBO's hit TV series "True Detective" has surely been a big success when the anthology drama finished off last year's sophomore run. With this, HBO confirms that there will be a continuation to the show. However, there are also speculations that this might not be the case.

Cancellation of "True Detective" Season 3

Obviously, HBO is really trying to do its best to continue the "True Detective" story with a new Season 3. But unfortunately, it is still unable to continue the series due to a lot of far more important things that it needs to address.

Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of the show is also busy doing a host of other things, leaving him with no option than to just put the production of the new season on hold. According to Christian Times, this only leads us to one thing, it is the cancellation of "True Detective" Season 3.

On the lighter side, things are not that bad as Casey Bloys, the programming chief of HBO has said that a "True Detective" Season 3 is still very possible to happen some other time. Casey Bloys said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, "It is not dead, but there's no take on a third season yet."

Robert Downey Jr. Kills Off "True Detective" Season 3

Nic Pizzolato is rumoured to be working on a new TV series that will feature the comeback of Robert Downey Jr. on the small screen. Perhaps this is the reason as to why the fate of "True Detective" is indeterminate.

The Hollywood Reporter says the new show might be based on the "Sherlock Holmes" series. Whichever the case may be, "True Detective" is still pretty much alive, but it is very unlikely to release a new season this year.
