"I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved," Jim Carrey fired back following accusations of supplying illegally-obtained drugs to her then girlfriend Cathriona White that resulted in her death.

White's estranged husband Mark Burton filed a lawsuit against Carrey claiming that the actor used his "immense wealth and celebrity status to illegally obtain and distribute highly addictive and, in this case deadly, controlled substances."

In an emotional response, Carrey said,"What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man's lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world."

The actor added that White's death was beyond anyone's control and her troubles were born long before they met.

The two started dating in 2012 but split within the year. After two years, they seemed to rekindle their romance but allegedly broke up few weeks before the Irish make-up artist was found dead in September 2015. It was later determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner that White had taken her own life by overdosing on a lethal amount of prescription drugs including Ambien, Propranolol, and a massive dose of Percocet.Three pill bottles were found near her body bearing the name "Arthur King." Furthermore, the police then later found out that these-these highly controlled and dangerous substances had not been prescribed to White.

According to Burton's written complaint filed in Los Angeles county, Carrey obtained the drugs that killed White and used "Arthur King" as an alias. The 54-year-old actor then provided these drugs to his 30-year-old girlfriend, doing so despite knowing so well that White was ill-equipped to ingest and manage highly addictive prescription drugs outside the care of a licensed physician, that White was prone to depression, and that she had previously attempted to take her own life.

Burton further alleged that the comedian even took steps to conceal his involvement in White's untimely and tragic death, posing as a "grieving, good guy" in his public charades.

As per the complaint, Carrey is facing damages for violation of the drug dealer liability act and wrongful death. Stay tuned for more updates!
