Three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade dished the details on his proposal to Gabrielle Union, where he reportedly had a little help from his family.

According to The Associated Press, Wade, 31, wanted to include his two sons and his nephew in the surprise for his now fiancée. Every detail of the proposal was planned, including what kind of floor he would be on when popping the big question.

"I planned it," Wade told AP. "No concrete for my knee. I planned it very well."

As for how his sons and nephew were involved, Wade told AP the little guys were enlisted to hold up the signs on Saturday, Dec. 21:

- His youngest son Zion held a sign with her name.

- His nephew Dahveon Morris' sign said "Will you."

- And his oldest son Zaire's sign read "marry us?"

Union , 41, saw the signs first, then spotted Wade down on bended knee before it hit that he was proposing to her. Wade gave Union an 8.5-carat diamond, one that took him months to get just right. The Miami Heat player told AP he visited Jason of Beverly Hills "several times" to make sure Union's ring was perfect.

"I kind of know my lady," Wade said. "I know she's simple, but at the same time, I just wanted the rock to kind of speak for itself and not do too much with the diamonds. I think it's a simple ring, but it's nice. It was nicely done ... it's timeless."

Wade told AP the wedding will probably occur sometime in September 2014, but the couple hasn't officially set a date. However, teammate and friend Lebron James wasn't surprised about the proposal.

"It took a lot for him to do it," James told AP. "But I think Gab is perfect for him. I think D-Wade is perfect for Gab. For them to be at one now and for their whole family to come together, man, I think it's amazing. It's another step for him. I thought it was pretty cool. I'm all for it. I'm happy for them."
