"The Winds of Winter," sixth book in "A Song of Ice and Fire" series by George RR Martin has been plagued by several rumors about its impending release. However, despite lack of information, fans speculated its release date every week. But just this week, a shocking update was reportedly revealed.

According to Amazon France page for the book, it is set for release on March 9, 2017. Looks like the release date is finally out and the fans can now start marking their calendars!

However, as soon as the media and fans got frenzied with the update, Martin's publisher in U.K., HarperCollins noted that "Nothing has been finalised regarding the publication or the date." This is exactly the kind of thing that the fans have been told over and over again since the last book, "A Dance with Dragons," was published in 2011.

There have also been previous reports where it was also noted that an International Standard Book Number, 9780553801538, has already been registered, indicating that the book is about to be released.

Amazon is known to create placeholder pages for the books that are slated for future release and this is not the first time that it has happened with "The Winds of Winter." Hence, it is not exactly an accidental leak of release date as it is not odd to reveal a placeholder date.

Looks like the fans will have to go back to speculating the actual date and continue waiting with whatever little Martin can reveal to his impatient fans. Even though Martin has apologized several times for not being able to deliver the much awaited title sooner, but after he released several chapters within one year, fans were hopeful that perhaps the book is on its way real soon.

Meanwhile, "Game of Thrones" season 7 began filming in Northern Ireland. The fans can at least hope to see the show on time, if not read the book.
