In what appears to be a rather-surprising development involving Arsenal, midfielder Jack Wilshere agrees to move to Premier League rivals AFC Bournemouth right on transfer deadline day in order to secure better chances of playing first-team football.

Wilshere, whose lack of game time didn't hamper his inclusion in England's Euro 2016 squad, has been highly regarded as one of the Gunners' key to its next Premier League title. His propensity to incur injuries, however, has long been a hindrance to his development.

Bournemouth is set to pay the whole of Wilshere's £90,000 weekly wages, apart from a payment of £2m in loan fees to Arsenal. The midfielder is said to have been impressed by his best friend and ex-Arsenal player Benik Afobe's encouragement for him to join the Cherries.

Wilshere lauded his move as his best opportunity to develop outside the Emirates. "I had a good chat with the manager and feel sure this is the best place for me to play and develop this season...I would like to thank everyone at the club for making me feel so welcome," said the midfielder on Twitter.

Manager Eddie Howe lauded Wilshere's move as a shrewd piece of business for Bournemouth. "We had a good talk about football, about Bournemouth the place and the club, thankfully he chose us, said the manager in an interview with The Guardian.

"Jack is obviously out there on his own with his profile and what we've attracted before, it's a good deal and one that can work for both sides. He can complement our style of play and maybe add that missing piece to the jigsaw," added Howe on Wilshere.

Wilshere's move to Bournemouth was preceded by sparks of interest coming from different clubs. The likes of Crystal Palace, Milan and Roma tried to hold talks with Arsenal on securing the midfielder on loan, to no avail.
