Six years earlier, "Avatar" was released and the film broke records for being one of the best sci-fi movies, showing the struggles and victories of Omaticaya clan. However, years have passed but the sequel of the film is nowhere to be seen. According to HNGN, this is because James Cameron does not want to compete with yet another potentially epic film, "Star Wars."

"My original plan was to release them a year apart, but we're opening that up. If for no other reason than that I don't want to land on the same date as one of the 'Star Wars' sequels," the "Avatar" director told the Wrap. "I don't want to go head-to-head with 'Star Wars.' That would be stupid. And hopefully they won't want to go head-to-head with us."

In the first "Avatar" film, many beloved characters died. However, thanks to its sci-fi genre, it is possible to bring all these characters back from the dead.

Meanwhile, there have also been previous reports indicating that "Avatar 2" will contain new settings, villains and a different storyline. However, the movie intends to retain its human versus nature theme that will remain largely unchanged.

The repeat characters that the fans can expect to see in the forthcoming sequel include Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. In all probability, Weaver will reprise his role as Dr. Grace Augustine and once again, she will help Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) in his missions. Stephen Lang, on the other hand, will reprise his role as Col. Miles Quatrich who is likely to become a lead star in "Avatar 2."

As far as its release is concerned, the movie is due for 2018 premiere.
