According to recent reports, writers of "Sherlock," Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, talk about the Holmes brothers. Mark Gatiss added that Sherlock Holmes is more compassionate but it is Mycroft who makes his younger brother wage an internal war between coldness and caring, the core being of Benedict's character in BBC series.

When Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss discuss Sherlock and Mycroft, there is no mention about the third brother or a sister. In fact, a breakdown of its episodes also do not show any signs of a third Holmes brother, pitted against Sherlock Holmes.

Now that the question of the third brother has been laid to rest, the new reports suggest that Jim Moriarty will resurface in season 4 to make up for the Holmes brother. This would mean that the next season will be full of more Moriarty-Holmes action that has been the core essence of "Sherlock" series.

Reports pointed out that when Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were filming on St. Catherine's Island for season 4, a full mast Moriarty flag was spotted. This validates the rumors about Jim Moriarty in the upcoming season. "We have a plan to top [Season 3] - and actually I do think our plan is devastating," Steven Moffat said.

The BBC "Sherlock Season 4" will premiere in January 2017.
