Tyrese Gibson (Fast and Furious) is set to reprise his role as Robert Epps in the latest "Transformers" sequel which is slated for big screen release in the summer of 2017.

Gibson took to his Instagram account to announce his return to the action-packed robot sci-fi series. "The Last Knight" is the fifth installment to the hugely successful franchise that defied poor reviews by critics.

The previous "Transformer" films were all box office hits. For example, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" grossed more than $402 million domestically back in 2009. Even the lowest grossing title "Age of Extinction" did remarkably well as the seventh-highest-grossing film at the time of its release, Christian Science Monitor reported.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" will see characters from the first three films and characters from "Age of Extinction." As per Screen Rant, Mark Wahlberg is set to reprise his role as Cade Yager. There are also rumors of a possible screen comeback of Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky and Megan Fox's Michaela. Since the confirmation of Josh Duhamel's return to the series as Colonel Lennox, it is widely expected to see Gibson's Sergeant Robert Epps joining the cast as well.

Meanwhile, Gibson is still involved in the ongoing film production of Fast and Furious 8 which will hit the big screen on April 12, 2017. In his recent interview, he opened how it feels like going through the sequel without one of the franchise's stalwarts, Paul Walker, who passed away following a tragic car accident.

"It's not easy moving forward without [Walker], and we feel his energy every day," said Gibson as quoted by Entertainment Online. "His trailer used to be parked next to mine. So, every time I step out of my trailer, it's always rough."

The hugely successful car-n-stunts series have seen quite a lot of transformation since the movie's debut in 2001 as a street racing film to adrenaline-packed action flick. Also, the eight installment also boasts a star-studded cast including Helen Mirren and Scott Eastwood.
