Sony Entertainment is set to thrill fans with the rumored 'The Last of Us 2' game reveal at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 in Los Angeles.

In addition, the Japanese consumer electronics giant is expected to showcase a gameplay trailer for the post-apocalyptic role-playing game filled with new concept arts and a raft of other interesting features.

UK-based publication Telegraph also mentioned that the sequel to 'The Last of Us' title is one of E3's most fan-hyped games. The upcoming iteration to the successful action drama will immerse gamers in a highly emotional gameplay experience with a slew of new characters to play and places to explore. If speculations hold weight, 'The Last of Us 2' could either serve as a sequel or a prequel to the first title. There is a possibility that the next title will not follow the main characters' storyline in the current game.

Swirling rumors over the post-apocalyptic action drama game came to light after 'Uncharted 4' gamers with keen sense of observation stumbled upon a poster captioned with 'The Last of Us: American Daughters.' The visual art featured a pregnant woman sporting a gas mask while holding a gun. Excited gamers interpret the Easter egg as a strong hint of a follow-up title release. Speculations indicate that the woman in the poster could either Ellie's mother or pregnant Ellie herself.

Meanwhile, a report from Christian Today stated that the next rumored title is likely a sequel with a storyline taking place some years later after the events in the current game. Additionally, Ellie remains a central part to the game's overall development. The sequel will reportedly continue where the first title's finale left off. Furthermore, Ellie's immunity from the virus that infected the rest of humanity will drive her quest in search of cure.

While so much buzz is generated from the rumored 'The Last of Us 2' release, an industry insider recently claimed that the sequel is unlikely to be announced or discussed at E3. The informant also noted that while game developer Naughty Dog is prototyping the game, the insider clearly said that no official word on the next title will come out soon.

"I think [Naughty Dog] is definitely dabbling in [The Last of Us 2], but I don't think we'll see it at E3. I think they'll probably have some prototypes going of that, I'll say that much," the insider (online alias Shinobi602) said as quoted in a recent Video Game Sophistry (VGS) interview.
