Freshman fan favorite television show “Supergirl” has been renewed for a second season. However, it will not air on the series’ current network, CBS, but instead on its sister network, The CW.

The show about the Girl of Steel will join other superhero-based programs on The CW like “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.” All four of these programs are produced by Greg Berlanti.

“Supergirl” premiered on CBS in October 2015 and has averaged around 9.8 million viewers per episode, which is low for a program on the Eye network. Those numbers would be gigantic for The CW, though.

Additionally, it is being reported that “Supergirl” will move production from Los Angeles to Vancouver, Canada, where Berlanti’s three other series film. This move would also make possible crossovers between “Supergirl” and the other shows much easier. (The Flash, played by Grant Gustin, already made a crossover appearance on the March 28 episode of “Supergirl.”)

The first season of “Supergirl” ended April 18 with a cliffhanger. “Season 2 is going to be more reflective of their past and how they’re going to change their future as a result of it in a really emotional way,” co-producer Ali Adler said.

Adler shared her joy about the renewal and move to a new station on Twitter earlier today. “#Supergirl thrilled & grateful to be @theCW home for superheroes & strong women,” she tweeted.

Based on DC Comics characters, “Supergirl” features Melissa Benoist in the title role of the live-action series as she decides to “finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.” She does this while working in National City as an assistant to media mogul Cat Grant, who is played by Calista Flockhart. The series also stars Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Jeremy Jordan and Mehcad Brooks.

The day and time the show will air on The CW next season has yet to be announced.
