"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" carefully walked the tightrope of paying homage to the original trilogy and attracting a new generation of fans. It was a tough balancing act, but director J.J. Abrams pulled it off. But the one nitpick that all fans had is that Luke Skywalker was barely in it. Mark Hamill's role was a glorified cameo without any lines of dialogue. Even youngsters know Luke is the Jedi Knight, though they didn't get to see it in "The Force Awakens."

That is going to change in "Star Wars: Episode VIII." A recent unconfirmed rumor has emerged that details how powerful Luke Skywalker has grown since "Return of the Jedi," as depicted in a recently shot scene on set. If the rumor is accurate, Luke sounds like an absolute badass in the highly anticipated sequel.

"Here's the saucy bit," the rumor states. "A few weeks ago they blew up - specifically, blew apart - an Ahch-To hut. According to my sources, Kylo and Rey have a conversation that Luke does not like. Luke tries to stop them. Luke gets angry...and the whole hut they are in disintegrates (re: 'blows up'). My source did not specify as to the exact cause of the disintegration, but based on the info I believe Luke accidentally (or perhaps even purposely) does so using the Force."

Again, this is all unconfirmed at this point, so take it with a grain of midichlorians. However, we hope that this makes it into the final product.

Such a scene would be a great showcase for Luke's breathtaking power and a hint as to how dangerous both sides of the Force can be. It plays into the themes about power and responsibility and, beyond that, is just plain cool. We didn't really get to see Luke become a full-fledged Jedi until the third film in the original trilogy. With 30 years in between "Return of the Jedi" and "The Force Awakens," we'd expect him to have further developed his abilities. He should be the Yoda to Rey and Kylo's younger Anakin in terms of power.
