AMC can keep "The Walking Dead," because HBO's "Game of Thrones" is still the biggest and most popular show when all is said and done. The epic fantasy series was watched by as many as 20 million viewers during its season five run and also proudly claimed the honor of most illegally downloaded show of all-time.

But given the intense scrutiny that the show faces as the highly anticipated sixth season is upon us, HBO decided not to send out advance copies of early episodes to critics in an attempt to avoid spoilers and leaks. Talk about going in blind; not only is the show surpassing the narrative timeline of the books this year, but now fans can't even read reviews beforehand. However, HBO did allow certain outlets to attend the premiere event in Los Angeles, and those in attendance are teasing some big things in the season premiere.

"I've seen the premiere, but I will be fed to direwolves if I reveal anything about that opening hour," a senior EW TV reporter wrote. "All I will tell you is that, as someone who has never read the books before, there was at least one surprising twist that had my jaw agape for a solid minute. Make of that what you will."

What a tantalizing little blurb. What could the surprising twist be?

The main storyline that fans want (read: need) answered immediately is the fate of Jon Snow. When last we saw the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, large holes were repeatedly being poked into his body by his mutinous brothers at the Wall. Yes, HBO is technically correct that Jon Snow is dead. However, that doesn't mean he's going to stay dead. Will he be resurrected? If so, how will it be done? This is where a surprise twist would most likely be lurking.

But there are other options, as well. Daenerys Targaryen was left in a similarly precarious position when she was plopped down right in the middle of a hostile Dothraki horde last season. Perhaps something shocking occurs with her. Dany's storyline has boasted quite a few "WOW" moments over the years, after all.

Or maybe the surprising twist lies with Arya Stark, who was struck blind at the House of Black and White in last year's season finale.

So many questions, so few answers. At least we'll soon know what happens.

"Game of Thrones" will return to HBO for a sixth season this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
