Psyonix's "car meets soccer" game "Rocket League" was a veritable slam dunk with fans, so much so that it was only a matter of time until a basketball mode became an actual mode for the game. Now it looks like that time won't be too far off - the indie developer has revealed that the Hoops mode update is already on its way.

When you ask? The "Rocket League" basketball update is set to debut simultaneously on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam April 26.

"By popular demand, 'Rocket League' Hoops mode adds a dynamic basketball twist to our soccer-meets-driving concept," reads the mode's description beneath its trailer on YouTube.

The basketball mode update will soon introduce a new way to play the popular game and, once it arrives, car soccer will become car basketball.

"Rocket League" Hoops leaves nothing to the imagination and is quite straightforward. Instead of playing soccer, which the game is known for, players will play basketball where the obvious objective is to toss a ball into a hoop in order to score. This paradigm change affects the gameplay some, as aerial and wall shots become far more important. Furthermore, there is a physics tweak to make the ball behave in a manner one would expect from a basketball.

Players will be able to quick-save replays and rename them as well.

The mode does have some things that many might be less enthused about, however. For starters, the mode is two-on-two, making it less chaotic than some might like, and it will only debut with one arena, dubbed Dunk House. More arenas are expected to come in later updates, though.

In addition to the basketball mode, Psyonix is releasing a paid content pack titled "NBA Flag Pack," priced at $1.99, alongside it. As the name suggests, the pack contains flags featuring the logos of every team from the National Basketball Association. The flags are purely cosmetic though, so rocking a Golden State Warriors flag won't automatically make you better.

This update is the latest in a series of updates to the title to keep "Rocket League" fans engaged and to lure in others as well. In total, more than 14 million players across its various platforms play this game and, with all these updates, many more are sure to come.
