Earlier this week, actor Don Cheadle was picked up in the hoopla of coverage surrounding the Golden Globe nominations. He received on for his Showtime series House of Lies. During the coverage it was revealed that the actor may be reprising his role as Col. Jams "Rhodey" Rhodes in the Spinoff to Iron Man The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

"[He] has a part to film in the next Avengers movie and then over the next few months will prepare to star in and direct a highly-anticipated Miles Davis biopic," USA Today  wrote in its Golden Globes coverage report.

The news was later confirmed by HitFix that Rhodes "has a key role in the conflict with Ultron," the site says later adding "one ting you can count on is that at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the group that calls themselves The Avengers isn't going to be the same group we saw eating shwarma together at the end of the first film."

With the Avengers universe taking place simultaneously with these ever expanding movies, bringing in Rhodes would be fair game. However, one of the key reasons they explained why the Avengers couldn't help Iron Man in his third film was that they needed to draw a line between the United States' problems and the world's problems. The Avengers are a global defense and Rhodes' War Machine/Iron Patriot is more for defending America's interests. Still, that doesn't mean a second Iron Man suit wouldn't be welcome in a fight, especially one as large-scale as the infamous Battle of New York.

Still, perhaps Rhodes' role will be smaller and more human in order to not clutter up the screen with too many Iron Man suits. After all, the films are still an embarrassment of riches with the Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver already signed on to make appearances against James Spader's Ultron.
