April Fool's Day jokes are terrible. Scratch that - April Fool's Day is terrible. You need look no further than Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell's attempt to pull a fast one on Steeler Nation on Friday to know just how and why this abominable holiday is the worst on the Gregorian calendar - Pope Gregory XIII probably terrorized the Vatican on the first of April, right?

Bell, recovering from yet another serious injury, decided to post a cryptic and ultimately terrifying message thanking Steelers fans for their love and support, while simultaneously wishing them a fond farewell.

It, unsurprisingly, did not go over well.

To Bell's credit, it did seem to catch at least a few Steel City fans napping, their responses ranging from shock to incredulity to even a handful of threats aimed at Bell for giving them a heart attack.

Bell, 24, is far and away one of the best running backs in the league. Unfortunately, he's spent much of his three seasons in the NFL dealing with injuries - he initially fell to the second round of the draft in 2013 because of a knee injury suffered while he was still at Michigan State - and even an off-field issue with marijuana. Bell eventually put the marijuana issue behind him, returning to the field and playing extremely well for the Steelers through the first few weeks of 2015 - he was averaging an astounding 4.9 yards per carry through those games.

Unfortunately, Bell suffered an MCL injury during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals and fine-in-human-form, linebacker Vontaze Burfict. Burfict, tackling Bell out of bounds, twisted the talented ballcarrier in an awkward manner, causing Bell's knee to buckle and his ligament to pop like the blood vessel in the temples of Steelers fans who woke up to Bell's tweet on Friday.

Eventually Bell owned up to his joke and had a good laugh at the unhappy fans expense and that was that.

Another April Fool's Day, another terrible joke that made no one feel good about anything.
