Google is finally coming through on its long-overdue promise of extending Chrome Apps to Mac by adding software that integrates well with the OS X platform.

Google has announced that its Chrome Apps, which was launched to celebrate the Chrome's fifth year anniversary in September, will make a debut on OS X-based laptops and computers. After making its appearance in Windows PCs and Chromebooks, Chrome Apps will work just like native Mac apps, with additional support for offline functioning, automatic update and syncing on any computer with a signed in Chrome browser.

Google's extensive reach in all possible domains is not a secret. The web giant launched the Chrome browser after nearly a decade in business and Chrome's current success in just five years is enormous. The light-and-fast browser is compatible with any leading operating systems including Android, iOS, Linux, OS X, and Windows. Microsoft went to town to put down the Chrome browser and Google-related applications with its "Scroogled" campaign, but this has not affected Google's efforts to improve and attract more users.

"Chrome Apps work offline, update automatically and sync to any computer where you're signed into Chrome, so you can pick up where you left off," Google engineers, Trent Apted and Jack Hou, said in a company's blog. "Your Chrome Apps on Mac behave and feel just like native software. For example, you can find your Chrome Apps in the Applications folder on the Dock. Search for apps by name in the Spotlight search-just like any other Mac program that you already use."

The Mac integration of Chrome Apps enables users to access a wide range of desktop games and apps designed for OS X. The Chrome Apps also adds a quick launcher in the Dock allowing users to start their favorite apps with just one click.

With the focus on holiday season, Google has highlighted some apps in the Chrome Web Store. The WeVideo Next app lets users edit and share videos seamlessly. The app also works offline so users can continue working on their videos during intermittent data connections. Other apps include Until AM that offers a fully-fledged DJ setup and plays music from SoundCloud and from also the device's MP3 list, which is useful for offline playback during no internet access.

Chrome Web Store gives access to various desktop apps and by choosing "For your desktop," Google gives apps tailored for your PC.
