Rockstar is well known for producing multi-million selling games, ranging from "The Warriors" to "Grand Theft Auto." But while many of its titles have gotten some kind of love in recent years, one popular franchise has remained relatively untouched: the "Red Dead" series.

Debuting in 2004, fans instantly fell in love with the western action-adventure video game "Red Dead Revolver." This popularity led to the creation and 2010 release of "Red Dead Redemption," which did even better than the first game and is regarded as one of the greatest games of all-time. Naturally, this popularity led many to call for a new entry in the series, but their calls appeared to have fallen on deaf ears - until now.

Rumors had been around for awhile suggesting that a new entry in the series was in the works, but these rumors have seriously taken hold thanks to the latest development in "Red Dead" news. An anonymous tipster sent an email to FragHero informing the publication that a sequel to the critically-acclaimed game is indeed in development and has been so for the past four years. Furthermore, he claimed the game will be titled "Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends Of The West" and is slated for a Fall 2017 release. It will reportedly have at least two playable characters and feature a more expansive world than what was seen in previous titles.

In a similar vein, the source said fans can expect to see an HD remake of the original "Red Dead Redemption" for next-gen consoles by the end of 2016.

So just how credible is this source? The reader claims he got his information from an ex-Rockstar Games employee. However with no way to independently verify the claims, this rumor, just like every other of its ilk, should be treated with a grain of salt.

Assuming that this claim is true however, when should we expect to see an official update about the subject? The source claims that Rockstar is slated to break the news during E3 2016 in June. At the very least this, aligns with two statements  Rockstar and its parent company, Take Two Interactive made in the past.

At one point, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that much like "Grand Theft Auto," "Red Dead" would be a permanent franchise so long as it stays at its current quality level. More recently, when asked about his plans for E3 2016, he said, "we will be there in a big way."

With this in mind, look forward to E3, where we may finally hear the news we've yearned for.
