Dell's stunning, ultra-premium line of developer notebooks have arrived, with the computer manufacturer announcing their availability late last week. Led by three variants of the New Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition, the company's latest devices are true-born powerhouses.

As beautiful as the machines are, they are only available - at least for now - in the United States. Apart from this, the powerful machines are only equipped with Ubuntu Linux 14.04. Plus, they cost quite a lot, with the machines starting at a pretty hefty $1,550.

Customers who purchase the machines would get a lot of computing power for the price, with all the XPS models announced last week equipped with Intel Skylake Core i7 processors and 13-inch quad QHD+ touch screens with 3200 x 1800 screen resolution.

The Dell XPS Developer Edition line is part of the company's Project Sputnik, a project with the specific goal of developing machines which are developer-friendly. Barton George, senior principal engineer at the CTO at Dell, stated that the project has grown significantly over the years, with its initial investment of just $40,000 raking in more than $10 million in revenue.

"As the project has evolved we have continued to solicit and incorporate feedback. Thanks to your support the XPS 13 developer edition has gone from one to multiple configs," he wrote in a post.

The three New XPS 13 Developer Edition laptops come in numerous configurations, with the $1,549 model shipped with a Core i7 Skylake processor with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. The next XPS 13 variant, priced at $1,949, comes shipped with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SDD. At the top of the pyramid lies the $2,349 model, which ships with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.

The laptops can now be ordered through Dell's online store. Once ordered, the laptops will ship in 4-6 business days.

Apart from the three New XPS 13 laptops, Dell also presented new models of the company's Precision workstation notebooks, the Precision 5510, 3510, 7510, and 7710. Just like their XPS counterparts, the notebooks come equipped with Ubuntu Linux. The machines are extremely powerful too, with the 15-inch Dell Precision 7510 mobile workstation being described as one of the world's most powerful mobile workstations, equipped with 3TB storage, 65GB of RAM and a 4K Ultra HD screen at 3840x2160 resolution.

The Precision 7510 is set to be available within a week.
