The PlayStation 4 from Sony and Xbox One from Microsoft have been competing with each other even before their respective launches around the world. Now that each has had its release, the question can finally be asked, which console do people like better? If sales figures are anything to go by, the answer to that question goes to Sony's PlayStation 4.

Over 250,000 of Sony's new console have been sold in the U.K.. since its launch roughly 48 hours ago on Nov. 29. According to MCV, retail sources have confirmed the extent of the PlayStation 4's successful performance following the news that was originally reported by Chart-Track that the PS4 had become the U.K.'s fastest selling console ever.

The original record was held also held by Sony for the release of the PlayStation Portable back in 2005, which sold 185,000 when it came out. The PlayStation 4 not only surpassed sales of its own PSP and PS3, but it has struck a definitive blow to its rival at Microsoft by outpacing the release of the next-gen console the Xbox One.

For comparison's sake, the Xbox One sold approximately 150,000 units in the first 48 hours of its launch. The PlayStation 3, the predecessor to Sony's newest successful console, sold 165,000 units over a similar amount of time, according to IGN. It's worth noting that the PlayStation 3 came out with a hefty and very controversial price tag of $600, $300 less than the PlayStation 4 costs.

Needless to say, that PlayStation is at the top of the next-gen charts with Xbox One in a close second. Lagging very far behind is the Nintendo Wii U, which was released in the U.K. more than a year ago.
