Following the launch of the first of this year's next-generation gaming consoles, Sony's PlayStation 4, Microsoft took it upon itself to acknowledge the two company's feud and put it aside so that the hard work of each developer can be celebrated rather than challenged on launch day. Now, Sony seems to have taken a page out of its rivals book and congratulate Microsoft via Twitter.

The tweet from the official PlayStation account is brief and simply reads "congrats, @Xbox @Microsoft! #NextGeneration #GreatnessAwaits."

As IGN points out, the congratulations message is somehow even more brief than Microsoft's congratulatory message from a week ago which read: "Congratulations on your launch Sony." However, despite its short and sweet appeal a couple of Sony's executives have sent congratulations from their personal Twitter accounts as well.

"Congratulations to Microsoft and all my friends there on the launch of your console," wrote Shahid Kamal Ahmad, Sony's Senior Business Development Manager.

"Congratulations @XboxP3 @Mr.PhilHarrison @majornelson @albertpenello on the global launch of Xbox One! :D @amboyes," tweeted Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony's Worldwide Studios.

The tweets from one rival company to another are a sign of civility and good sportsmanship but are merely drops in the water of the major shots fired at one another back in June during this year's E3 gaming conference. Each console debuted and PlayStation 4 won a huge PR victory over the Xbox One, which even resulted in Microsoft going back to the drawing board and reversing a couple of its policies like the Xbox One's requirement to be online at all times and the ability to share or let friends borrow games.

However, it appears all that is in the past and the company's have no need to squabble with one another now that the success or failure of each console is completely dependent on the fans.
