The marketing campaign for Zack Snyder's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" is chugging along nicely in advance of the film's release later this month. But with just a few short weeks to go, fans still don't know much about the movie's villains: Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and Doomsday. Sure, comic book readers know all about these guys as they are two of the most iconic characters in DC's history. But they have yet to appear in Warner Bros.' infantile DC Extended Universe, meaning some moviegoers may be unfamiliar with the two.

Today, we're getting a bit of background on both characters that confirms previous rumors and provides a slight spoiler for "Dawn of Justice."

Entertainment Weekly has the inside info:

"The rage and anxiety of these two characters is manipulated by Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), a billionaire sociopath with a God complex of his own who takes joy in bringing the powerful to their knees. Luthor not only [slight spoiler ahead] orchestrates a mass murder aimed at turning the two heavy hitters against each other but also uses some Kryptonian relics left behind from the Man of Steel aftermath to cook up a cosmic mutant Frankenstein - Doomsday, partially built from the remains of Michael Shannon's General Zod."

This seems to confirm previous speculation that Eisenberg's Luthor is indeed the one who creates Doomsday to take down his mortal enemies.

Stars Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck will go toe-to-toe in the film as Superman and Batman, respectively, before teaming up to stop Luthor's monstrous creation. The duo had this to say about their early battle:

"He's projecting his own sense of failure, his own sense of disillusionment, his own cynicism onto Superman," Affleck said.

"Superman's weakness is that he doesn't want to hurt anyone, he doesn't want to scare anyone, and in that you can take advantage of him. This is someone who is a complete amateur, and he's facing up against someone who is very well versed in the arts of war."

The official synopsis for the film is:

"Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis' most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it's ever known before."

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" will arrive on March 25.
