Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been adamant about quarterback Tony Romo being the Cowboys starting quarterback for the next four to five seasons, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he won't take a quarterback with the fourth pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Cowboys finished in last place in the NFC East with a 4-12 record last season and lost their starting quarterback twice to a broken collarbone. While Jones believes that Romo will be behind center for the Cowboys for the next couple seasons, North Dakota State's Carson Wentz could be the perfect fit for Dallas in the first round, as he will need time to develop in the league before he is ready to start.

The Cowboys owner likely wouldn't be opposed to the idea, and he knows the great success that Green Bay had when they transitioned from Hall of Famer Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers. Jones said that he believes if a quarterback were to sit behind Romo for three to four seasons, he would come out with a "Harvard degree" in how to play quarterback at the NFL level.

Wentz reportedly impressed the Browns at the NFL Combine this past weekend, but if the Browns decide to choose California quarterback Jared Goff with the second pick, Dallas should jump on Wentz. Many draft analysts believe that Goff is more ready to step into a NFL team and that Wentz may need time to develop in the league. That is why he could make a perfect fit behind Romo, and it could have a huge upside in having him wait and progress, as he has even drawn comparisons with Colts franchise quarterback Andrew Luck.

While the Luck comparisons may be a stretch, there is no doubt that Wentz is a rare talent that checks all the boxes that NFL teams are looking for in a quarterback. The 23-year-old only improved his draft stock with his performance at the Combine this past weekend, and he is expected to be one of the first two quarterbacks off the board come April.

The North Dakota State quarterback will likely be the Browns top choice, but if he somehow slides to fourth, don't be surprised if the Cowboys take him as a future successor to Romo. The Cowboys will have a major decision to make if the Browns chose Wentz and Goff is still on the board for them, as they could also look to groom the California quarterback behind Romo, but it's uncertain how high Dallas' front office views him.

The Cowboys will likely have to wait and see who falls to them with the fourth pick in the draft, but if Wentz is still available, the move could be a perfect fit for both sides.
