The Buffalo Bills just released Mario Williams a week before free agency. This means a handful of teams will be hungry to sign the veteran pass rusher, who has recorded 96 sacks in his career. Williams, at 31, may not be a spring chicken, but he is still a productive football player. Williams stated that last season it was Rex Ryan's defensive scheme to blame for his lack of productivity, not any type of decline. The Bills obviously did not believe Williams as they did not appreciate the way he handled himself in 2015.

Now, other teams who have deep needs at the defensive end position could have a brand new tool for 2016. Currently, the Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys (thanks to the loss of Greg Hardy), Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins, Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs could all use some help at the defensive end position.

Most notably, the Dallas Cowboys will be desperate for a defensive end who can, at least, make a couple of tackles as they will go into the 2016 season without Greg Hardy, Randy Gregory for four games and Jeremy Mincey. Another strong possibility is that the New York Giants pick up Williams as they could use a quality pass rusher after the Jason Pierre-Paul accident. The Giants will also lose Robert Ayers, Cullen Jenkins, George Selvie and, potentially, JPP himself.

It should not be too hard for Williams to convince teams to sign him as he is not necessarily an off the field distraction in any way. In fact, Williams recorded double digit sacks for the three years prior to the 2015 season.

The Atlanta Falcons could use a veteran edge rusher to help teach some of their younger defensive lineman a couple of tricks of the trade as Dan Quinn is a heavily defensive-oriented coach. Williams could also always look to return to where he began his career, Houston. The Texans may not be open to re-signing Williams, but he did have a solid career in Texas. Williams spent 2006 to 2011 with the team, only leaving in free agency to play for Buffalo.

Whoever lands Williams could be in for a huge boost along the defensive line.
