WhatApp is leaving old devices in the past. The popular messaging app has announced that it'll cease supporting older devices, Business Insider reported.

These platforms include BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, Symbian S60, Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1. Support for these platforms is expected to end by 2017.

"While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future," the company said in a statement, according to Tech Times.

Newer platforms will still be supported by WhatsApp, which include Windows 10 Mobile, BlackBerry Priv, Android and iOS. If users want to continue using WhatsApp, they will need to upgrade to newer devices and operating systems.

"As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use," the statement continued.

The messaging platform just celebrated its seventh year anniversary, and the company has grown a lot since then. Figures show that the app sees more than 1 million users each month, according to PC Mag.

It's numbers like these that caused Facebook to acquire WhatsApp in 2014. Since then, the company has been seeing consistent growth.
