"Idiocracy," the 2006 dystopian comedy that shows a future dumbed-down America, is becoming a reality, says one of the film's writers. "I never expected #idiocracy to become a documentary," tweeted screenwriter Etan Cohen on Wednesday.

The Mike Judge comedy featured Luke Wilson as the protagonist, Joe Bauers, who is selected by the Pentagon to be a guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. The experiment transports Bauers 500 years into the future, where he finds himself surrounded by stupid people, according to The Wrap.

"I thought the worst thing that would come true was everyone wearing Crocs," Cohen said in a reply to one of his followers.

Cohen wasn't the only one who thought "Idiocracy" was coming true. Terry Crews, who played the role of President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho in the film, also took to the micro-blogging platform last month to share a picture of himself in character.

"ALL Y'ALL NEED TO STOP TRIPPIN. CHILL THE F OUT, 'MERICA ‪#CAMACHO2016," he captioned the post.
