In December 2015, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend announced that they were expecting a daughter together. The model, TV host and cookbook author has been very open about undergoing in vitro fertilization to conceive their baby girl, but now, Teigen is opening up about why her and Legend decided to have a daughter and not a son.

"I've made this decision," Teigen told People. "Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo. I picked her and was like, 'Let's put in the girl.'"

"I think I was most excited and allured by the fact that John would be the best father to a little girl," she continued. "That excited me. It excited me to see ... just the thought of seeing him with a little girl. I think he deserves a little girl. I think he deserves that bond. A boy will come along. We'll get there too, so it's not like we really have to pick. But he definitely is very lucky to have a little girl. And this girl is going to be so completely lucky to have John as her papa - it's crazy!"

Teigen revealed that she believes something magical happens to men once they have a daughter. The Sports Illustrated model said that she loved how "soft they get, how mushy, and excited they get." While their daughter will be the first child for both Teigen and Legend, the "Cravings" author thinks that her husband will make a great father based on how he is with their three dogs, named Pennu, Pippa and Puddy, according to The Huffington Post.

"He never suspected he could love something like that ever, so it's so funny seeing him interact with them and knowing that's the way he's going to speak to our kid," Teigen said.
