Forty-eight people were trapped in suspended tram cars in New Hampshire over the weekend, according to Fox News. Skiers at Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway were stranded, suspended 40 feet from the ground, in below zero temperatures while they awaited rescue.

The two trams got stuck around 2 p.m. on Sunday. They were evacuated by 4:45 p.m.

In order to get the people to safety, rescuers had to rappel them down to the ground, the Washington Post reports. No one was injured as a result.

After inspecting the incident, officials believed a service brake issue was to blame. And though temperatures remained below zero, they don't think the freezing weather was a serious factor.

According to Paula Tracy, a passenger on the suspended trams, there were 15 children on board, including an 8-month- old baby.

"There was no panic, but there were some worried faces and people were cold. I don't think it was that much warmer inside," Tracy said, according to the Boston Globe.

While they waited for rescue, resort officials sent them blankets to stay warm.
