Last year it was announced that "The Hunger Games" actress Jena Malone would appear in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." Immediately, fans took one look at the red hair and thought Carrie Kelly, aka Robin from the iconic Frank Miller comic book "The Dark Knight Returns," which "Dawn of Justice" is loosely inspired by. However, those rumors were never confirmed, and now a new magazine profile reveals Malone to be a different Batman sidekick.

ComicBookMovie.com is reporting that Malone will be taking on the role of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl (as if this movie wasn't already crowded enough). The source is a bit unclear, so don't take this as 100 percent accurate, but it does make sense. Both Barbara Gordon and Batgirl are mentioned as credited names similar to how Ezra Miller is listed as Barry Allen/Flash. However, his name comes with a cameo notation, whereas Malone's role may offer a bit more screen time.

Recent rumors had suggested that if Malone were not playing a female Robin that she would be the DC Extended Universe's Batgirl. To be clear, she is not playing Oracle, a version of Barbara Gordon who becomes paralyzed and then takes on the role of Batman's uber tech support. It sounds very much like Malone will be kicking butt first-hand. But the real question is if this is good for the film.

"Batman V Superman" already has two titans front and center in the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel. The film is also introducing Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jessie Eiseneberg as Lex Luthor, the aforementioned Miller as the Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. That's not to mention Doomsday as the Big Bad. Now admittedly, some of these roles are just mere cameos. But "Batman V Superman" is filled to the brim with important characters. Could it be overreaching just a bit?

Hopefully, Snyder delivers a quality Batgirl when "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits theaters on March 25.
