The Dallas Cowboys went from first to worst in the NFC East during the 2015 regular season, and there is no doubt that injuries played a major factor in their disappointing season. The Cowboys lost their franchise quarterback, Tony Romo, twice to a broken collarbone this past season, and they struggled to produce any offense with the backup quarterbacks on their roster.

The Cowboys even made a trade in September to acquire quarterback Matt Cassel, and after finishing 4-12 last season, the quarterback position has become a major concern in Dallas. Many think that the Cowboys will look to find their future franchise quarterback through the draft, and ESPN's Todd McShay has projected them to take North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz with the fourth pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Cowboys are keeping their cards close to their chest this offseason, and while their has been much speculation over them drafting a quarterback, owner Jerry Jones has made it known that he doesn't believe his franchise must take a quarterback in the upcoming draft. If the Cowboys don't draft a quarterback and are looking to sign a viable backup option for Romo on the free agent market, Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy could be a "interesting option," according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

McCoy's agent represents Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, and the quarterback they acquired at the beginning of last season was Cassel, according to Archer. For that reason, it's plausible to see a potential deal being done and McCoy returning to the state where he played in college. The former Longhorns quarterback would likely not be a long-term solution, but it would provide the Cowboys with a viable backup who can lead them to wins if needed.

The Cowboys are clearly in the market for a quarterback this offseason, and whether they will acquire one through the draft or free agency is unknown at this time. The Cowboys could very well draft a future franchise quarterback to groom behind Romo, but it's possible to think that they could use their first round pick on a player who will have an instant impact and look to acquire a quarterback through free agency.
