Sri Lanka beat India by five-wickets in the first match of series at Pune Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Batting first, India managed to score a paltry total of 101 in 18.5 overs. Sri Lankan bowlers Kasun Rajitha, Dashun Shanaka and Dushmantha Chameera destroyed the Indian batting line-up with their lethal pace attack, according to Daily Excelsior. Sri Lanka, in reply, comfortably chased down the target with five wickets in hand.

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavsakar said that the defeat against inexperienced Sri Lanka was a wake up call for the Indians ahead of T20 World Cup.

"My honest advice now is that it's a very, very good wake-up call for the Indians having seen what the Sri Lankans can do. They should be better prepared for the remaining two matches," Gavsakar said, according to The Indian Express.

Sri Lankans, who acquired a 1-0 lead, are now looking to clinch the series by winning the second Twenty20 International. India is hosting Sri Lanka for a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series. The third T20 will be played at Visakhapatnam on Sunday. Both sides are looking to utilize the T20 series as a preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
